Faye Hardy-Lucas<\/strong> is the Vice President and General Counsel\/Secretary to the Board of Trustees at Hampton University.\u00a0 As Vice President and General Counsel, she serves as the chief legal officer for the University. This position is responsible for providing legal advice and counsel to the President, Board of Trustees, Administration and all other Departments and Divisions within the University. The General Counsel is also responsible for the selection and management of outside counsel when it is deemed appropriate to have additional expertise and representation. As Secretary to the Board of Trustees, Atty. Hardy-Lucas is responsible for coordinating the meetings of the Board and its committees, preparing and maintaining the minutes of those meetings and serving as the custodian of the University seal.<\/p>

Atty. Hardy-Lucas began her legal career as an assistant attorney in the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Finance in Washington, DC where she assisted in the administration and issuance of general obligation bonds and tax revenue anticipation notes for the District of Columbia; collected, organized and wrote proposed regulations and various data regarding the policy and administrative matters of the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Finance; produced the monthly South Africa Prohibited Investment List; and performed research to ensure the District\u2019s compliance with South Africa divestiture legislation. In addition, Atty. Hardy-Lucas has served as an Assistant Commonwealth\u2019s Attorney for the City of Newport News, Virginia where she prosecuted a wide array of cases ranging from assault and battery to murder.\u00a0 While there, she also served as the chief prosecutor for child abuse cases.\u00a0<\/p>

Atty. Hardy-Lucas is a native of Surry, Virginia and was educated in the public schools there.\u00a0 She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Hampton University and a Juris Doctorate degree from Howard University School of law.\u00a0 While at Hampton, she joined Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.\u00a0 During the summers while enrolled at Howard University School of Law, she interned with the Montgomery County Legal Aid Bureau in Langley Park, Maryland and The United States Army Judge Advocate General\u2019s (JAG) Corps, in Hanau, West Germany.<\/p>

Atty. Hardy-Lucas has served on the boards of Hampton Roads Academy and the Virginia Peninsula Food Bank.\u00a0 She is a member of the Tidewater Chapter of National Smart Set and the NCAA General Counsel Advisory Board.\u00a0 She has been honored by Mount Nebo Baptist Church, Surry, Virginia with the Joseph Award and her home church, First Gravel Hill Baptist Church, Rushmere, Virginia for her service to the church and community.\u00a0 Atty. Hardy-Lucas has also received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Surry County High School.<\/p>

Atty. Hardy-Lucas is married to Elliott W.
