What are the core requirements? \u00a0<\/strong>Every Hampton University student prior to graduation should attain the following core competencies which include critical thinking skills, ethics, international diversity, information and technology literacy, quantitative reasoning, oral and written communication, and scientific reasoning.<\/p>

Can I take classes at other colleges\/universities? Yes.\u00a0<\/strong>Students have the opportunity to take classes at another institution that is accredited, with signed approval from the Provost and the Dean of their department.<\/p>

Can I double major?<\/strong>\u00a0Yes.\u00a0 Students who plan to graduate with dual majors must satisfy all requirements in each major, including all related courses, with separate courses. Students choosing dual major options are required to maintain at least a 2.5 GPA.<\/p>

How many credits are needed to graduate?<\/strong>\u00a0Students must meet the minimum of 120 semester hours of credit accepted by the University.<\/p>

What is the grading scale like at Hampton?\u00a0<\/strong>Hampton students receive a letter grade for each class in which they are enrolled, ranging from A+ to F.\u00a0 Students must earn a passing grade of at least a \u201cC\u201d in all courses in their major area of study. High School students must complete at least four units of English, three units of college-preparatory mathematics, two units of foreign language, two units of social science, and two units in the natural sciences. The University recommends that candidates take the most rigorous academic program available in their schools, including at least five academic courses each year and AP, IB, and honors courses whenever possible. Does HU accept Advanced Placement credits?<\/strong><\/p>

Yes, students who enter Hampton University with Advanced Placement (AP) scores 3, 4, or 5 in areas equivalent to General Education Courses will be given credit. The credit will appear on your transcript and be treated the same as transfer credit. You must send your scores directly to the Registrar\u2019s Office.\u00a0<\/p>

Early\u00a0action plans are nonbinding \u2014 students receive an\u00a0early\u00a0response to their application but\u00a0do\u00a0not have to commit to the\u00a0college\u00a0until the traditional reply date of May 1.”<\/p>

Visiting Hampton University<\/strong><\/p>

Does Hampton offer any summer programs?<\/strong><\/p>

Yes, Hampton offers a Pre-College program. The Hampton University Pre-College Program is a five-week, academic enrichment, residential program. The Pre-College program promotes and secures an environment where students will have an opportunity to grow personally, while they enhance their academic and leadership possibilities. By attending the program, students will gain exposure to the full range of resources and facilities that are made available to them by the university. The program invites students that will complete their junior or senior year of high school by June of each academic year, as well as students who may not be attending Hampton University in the fall, but would like a head start on college level introductory courses.\u00a0<\/p>

Hampton also offers a program called Summer Bridge for freshmen who are accepted provisionally into the university. Freshmen who may not have met Hampton\u2019s requirements for full acceptance into the university can be granted the opportunity to complete 2 summer courses. If the freshman completes those courses successfully, they will be granted full acceptance into the university and be able to start classes in the fall.\u00a0 This program is by invitation only.<\/p>

Yes, The Marching Force is a very popular program on campus. The average class size at Hampton is about 20-25 students per classroom. The student-to-teacher ratio is 13:1<\/p>

Yes.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>The freshman class is required to have a curfew. On Sunday-Thursday curfew is at 11:00pm and Friday and Saturday curfew is 1:00am. The freshman class stays on curfew for approximately 4- 6 weeks.<\/p>

W.E.B DuBois is an upperclassman honors hall which is our only co-ed residence hall on campus. Students must have a minimum GPA of a 3.0 to reside in this residence hall<\/p>

What medical services are provided for students?<\/strong><\/p>

Hampton University has a health center located on campus and is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. \u00a0This facility has a trained medical staff that includes board-certified physicians, a nurse practitioner, a medical lab technician, a certified health educator, and other medical support personnel.\u00a0 After hours and on weekends there is a nurse on call 24\/7 to answer questions and concerns.<\/p>
