To address this gap, the Hampton University Department of Architecture (HUDA) has established a structured externship during the\u00a0<span class=\"markoiy4iojkx\" data-markjs=\"true\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">Spring<\/span>\u00a0semester that allows students to gain meaningful, hands-on experience with our regional professional network.<\/div><div>\u00a0<\/div><div class=\"x_elementToProof\">During\u00a0<span class=\"markoiy4iojkx\" data-markjs=\"true\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">Spring<\/span>\u00a0Break 2026, HUDA\u2014through a joint partnership with AIA Coastal Virginia and VANOMA\u2014will provide first- and second-year students with direct field experience in local architecture firms throughout the Hampton Roads\/Coastal Virginia region. This initiative is designed to introduce students to architectural practice early in their academic journey, strengthening their professional awareness and supporting long-term career development.<\/div><div>\u00a0<\/div><div class=\"x_elementToProof\">The program includes:<\/div><ul class=\"x_elementToProof\" data-editing-info=\"{&quot;applyListStyleFromLevel&quot;:true}\"><li><div class=\"x_elementToProof\" role=\"presentation\"><b>Workshops\u00a0<\/b>&#8211; led by experienced architects and educators, the workshop will provide insights into the design process, the importance of sustainability, and the role of architecture in shaping our built environment.<\/div><\/li><li><div role=\"presentation\"><b>Hard Hat Tours<\/b>\u00a0&#8211; students will\u00a0experience unique behind the scenes access to construction sites and architectural projects in progress.<\/div><\/li><li><div class=\"x_elementToProof\" role=\"presentation\"><b><span class=\"markoiy4iojkx\" data-markjs=\"true\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">Spring<\/span>\u00a0Break Design Challenge<\/b>\u00a0&#8211; students are tasked with developing innovative solutions to an assigned studio project on the office setting. data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">Third-year architecture students participated in an immersive Urban Studies Travel Studio in Genoa, Italy, where they engaged with the rich blend of historic cityscapes and contemporary urban design. Students explored modern advancements transforming public spaces and infrastructure across Genoa, Venice, Rome, and Milan. This study abroad experience brought their academic studies to life, offering firsthand insight into the architectural and urban challenges shaping some of Italy\u2019s most iconic cities. Beyond touring historic sites and contemporary projects, students sketched on location, conducted urban analyses, and had meaningful conversations with local architects and planners.
