Hampton students engaged directly with representatives from major airlines, federal agencies,&nbsp;airports&nbsp;and aerospace organizations, building relationships that can support their transition from the classroom to careers in a rapidly evolving industry.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/home.hamptonu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/OBAP-thumbnail-1.png?resize=860%2C484&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-26093 lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Hampton\u2019s participation reflects the University\u2019s longstanding commitment to aviation education and its continued focus on preparing students for careers in flight education, air traffic control, aviation management, airport&nbsp;operations&nbsp;and uncrewed&nbsp;aircraft&nbsp;systems.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOBAP\u2019s 50th anniversary represents both the progress that has been made in expanding access to aviation careers and the important work that remains ahead,\u201d said Dr. Joyce Shirazi, dean of Hampton University\u2019s School of Engineering, Architecture and Aviation. \u201cOur students belong in the rooms where the future of aviation and aerospace is being discussed and shaped. Experiences like this allow them to connect their Hampton education with the people,&nbsp;organizations&nbsp;and opportunities that will help define their careers. We are preparing them not simply to enter this industry, but to contribute to it with knowledge,&nbsp;discipline&nbsp;and leadership.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>United Airlines, which is based in Chicago, sponsored six Hampton students to attend the conference. During the week, Hampton students also joined other United-sponsored students for a private event at the newly opened Obama Presidential Center, extending an experience centered on professional development,&nbsp;networking&nbsp;and leadership.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The conference provided Hampton students with access to professionals&nbsp;representing&nbsp;a broad range of aviation and aerospace careers, including pilots, air traffic controllers, engineers,&nbsp;aircraft&nbsp;maintenance professionals, airport&nbsp;professionals&nbsp;and aviation managers. That exposure aligns with Hampton\u2019s emphasis on connecting rigorous academic preparation with career readiness and workforce needs.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For Hampton, the gathering also underscored the importance of ensuring that talented students have access to the relationships,&nbsp;mentorship&nbsp;and professional experiences necessary to pursue careers throughout aviation and aerospace.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Founded in 1976, the Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to the education,&nbsp;development&nbsp;and advancement of minorities in aviation and aerospace careers.
