Some applications to main campus graduate programs at Hampton University require a\u00a0<strong>Resume.<\/strong><\/p><p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/gradschool.cornell.edu\/career-and-professional-development\/pathways-to-success\/prepare-for-your-career\/take-action\/resumes-and-cvs\/\">Cornell University&#8217;s Graduate School,<\/a> &#8220;In the United States, most employers use resumes for non-academic positions, which are one or two page summaries of your experience, education, and skills. Employers rarely spend more than a few minutes reviewing a resume. Successful resumes are concise with enough white space on the page to make it easy to scan.&#8221;<\/p><p><a href=\"https:\/\/home.hamptonu.edu\/career\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/51\/2020\/05\/RESUME-2020.pdf\">Here<\/a> are some resources on resume writing provided by Hampton University&#8217;s Career Center. The Career Center recommends that you research what a resume looks like in your particular field or industry (e.g. Counseling, Sports Leadership).<\/p><p>In general, however, as Shayna Joubert of Northeastern University advises, your graduate school resume should &#8220;use crisp language to describe your experiences, present a clean and organized layout to make it easy to read, and make sure it&#8217;s free from typos and grammar errors.&#8221; Graduate school resumes, according to Joubert, &#8220;should emphasize your education, work and volunteer experience, and specific skills relevant to the particular program you&#8217;re applying to.&#8221;<\/p><p>The five tips Joubert offers are worth considering:<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-210aab7 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"210aab7\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-dfe696f\" data-id=\"dfe696f\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2e67339 elementor-icon-list--layout-traditional elementor-list-item-link-full_width elementor-widget elementor-widget-icon-list\" data-id=\"2e67339\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"icon-list.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul class=\"elementor-icon-list-items\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<li class=\"elementor-icon-list-item\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-icon-list-icon\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<i aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"fas fa-chevron-circle-right\"><\/i>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-icon-list-text\"><b>Tailor your resume to your program.<\/b> Make sure your resume highlights relevant experience and education that make you a good fit for the graduate program.<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<li class=\"elementor-icon-list-item\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-icon-list-icon\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<i aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"fas fa-chevron-circle-right\"><\/i>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-icon-list-text\"><b>Highlight all relevant experience.<\/b> All means all: just because you don't have professional experience doesn't mean that you can't highlight volunteer work, internships, and other kinds of experience that make you a strong candidate for your degree program.<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<li class=\"elementor-icon-list-item\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-icon-list-icon\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<i aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"fas fa-chevron-circle-right\"><\/i>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-icon-list-text\"><b>Showcase your skills.<\/b> \"Your resum\u00e9 should include a skills section that highlights technologies, skills, and other competencies relevant to the graduate program you're applying to.\"<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<li class=\"elementor-icon-list-item\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-icon-list-icon\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<i aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"fas fa-chevron-circle-right\"><\/i>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-icon-list-text\"><b>Include professional achievements.<\/b> \"In addition to your experience and skills, admissions committees are interested in the professional certifications you earned, professional training you've completed, professional organizations of which you're a member, and any instances in which you've been published.\"<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<li class=\"elementor-icon-list-item\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-icon-list-icon\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<i aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"fas fa-chevron-circle-right\"><\/i>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-icon-list-text\"><b>Keep it clean...and short.<\/b> Your graduate school resumes should be concise, well organized and well formatted, easy to read, and free of typos and grammatical errors.
