Hampton University requires that all full time undergraduate and international students have adequate health insurance coverage. The University has specific requirements that must be met for all enrolled undergraduate and international students. The requirements include a plan that provides appropriate coverage to access patient care providers in the Hampton Roads, Virginia service area for: emergency and non-emergency conditions, mental health, and prescription drug benefits. Coverage must remain in effect for the 2024-2025 academic year, with an unlimited policy year maximum, all the minimum essential coverages as required under the Affordable Care Act, including immediate coverage for pre-existing conditions.<\/p>\n

 <\/strong>If your coverage is a HMO and it does not provide guest privileges, it does not meet the University\u2019s insurance requirement criteria.<\/strong>   Undergraduate and International students will be automatically enrolled in the University sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) and the premium will be billed to the student account, unless proof of adequate health insurance coverage is submitted.<\/strong> <\/p>\n

Students who already have health insurance for the entire academic year and meet the above requirements must submit a waiver by September 6, 2024<\/u><\/strong>, and the waiver request must be approved to avoid being enrolled in, and billed for by the University, the Student Insurance Plan.  The University will apply the insurance charge to the student account, so it is important for all students to review their account.<\/p>\n

Graduate students are not required by the University to have health insurance coverage but are eligible to purchase the SHIP if enrolled in six or more credit hours. To enroll go to www.gallagherstudent.com\/hamptonu<\/a>. The SHIP is on a voluntary basis for graduate students only. All international students are automatically enrolled in the SHIP.<\/p>\n

The SHIP is designed to meet the health care needs of the diverse student population attending Hampton University. The plan provides the student with comprehensive coverage to include prevention and wellness benefits as mandated by the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The annual premium for the 2024-2025 year for the undergraduate students is $1,130.00<\/u><\/strong> per year, which includes an administrative fee. The coverage period is August 02, 2024 to August 01, 2025.<\/p>\n

Undergraduate and graduate students may select a plan for spouses and dependents. Please go to http:\/\/www.gallagherstudent.com\/hamptonu<\/a> to enroll or waive the SHIP, as well as enroll your eligible dependents. <\/p>\n

The SHIP insurance carrier for 2024\/25 was renewed with change from Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Virginia to United Health Care Student Resources (UHCSR). The account manager servicing the SHIP is Gallagher Student Health & Special Risk. The SHIP provides health insurance coverage anywhere in the United States and travel assistance when students are traveling abroad. The SHIP<\/strong> is a PPO Network plan using the United Health Care Choice Plus network, with participating providers locally in the Hampton area as well as throughout the country. Information about United\u2019s PPO network providers can be located at <\/strong>www.uhcsr.com<\/strong><\/a> . The plan might coordinate with other insurance coverage; when an out of state HMO does not provide coverage and might assist with the deductibles or any unpaid cost sharing balances that are not covered by the other available health insurance. All students with a limited, out of area coverage, or otherwise inadequate coverage in the Hampton Roads area will need to enroll in the University\u2019s SHIP.<\/p>\n
