The University has specific requirements that must be met for all enrolled undergraduate and international students. The requirements include a plan that provides appropriate coverage to access patient care providers in the Hampton Roads, Virginia service area for: emergency and non-emergency conditions, mental health, and prescription drug benefits. Coverage must remain in effect for the 2025-2026 academic year, with an unlimited policy year maximum, all the minimum essential coverages as required under the Affordable Care Act, including immediate coverage for pre-existing conditions.<\/em><\/p><p><strong><em>\u00a0If your coverage is a HMO and it does not provide guest privileges, it does not meet the University\u2019s insurance requirement criteria.<\/em><\/strong><em>\u00a0 \u00a0<\/em><strong><em>Undergraduate and International students will be automatically enrolled in the University sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) and the premium will be billed to the student account, unless proof of adequate health insurance coverage is submitted.<\/em><\/strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p><p><em>Students who already have health insurance for the entire academic year and meet the above requirements must submit a waiver by\u00a0<\/em><strong><em><u>September 6, 2025<\/u><\/em><\/strong><em>, and the waiver request must be approved to avoid being enrolled in, and billed for by the University, the Student Insurance Plan. \u00a0The University will apply the insurance charge to the student account, so it is important for all students to review their account.<\/em><\/p><p><em>Graduate students are not required by the University to have health insurance coverage but are eligible to purchase the SHIP if enrolled in six or more credit hours. To enroll go to\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gallagherstudent.com\/hamptonu\"><em>www.gallagherstudent.com\/hamptonu<\/em><\/a><em>. The SHIP is on a voluntary basis for graduate students only. All international students are automatically enrolled in the SHIP.<\/em><\/p><p><em>The annual premium for the 2025-2026 year for the undergraduate students is\u00a0<\/em><strong><em><u>$1,150.00<\/u><\/em><\/strong><em>\u00a0per year, which includes an administrative fee. The coverage period is August 02, 2025 to August 01, 2026.<\/em><\/p><p><em>The account manager servicing the SHIP is Gallagher Student Health &amp; Special Risk.
