The Hampton University (HU) Online IT Systems Analyst will report to the Executive Director/HU Online. This position will provide technical and administrative support for the Hampton University Online department. This role supports daily requirements by providing excellent customer service to students, faculty, and staff. This role will also use current remote access tools to assist users by providing hands-on assistance to troubleshoot, repair, upgrade, and configure computer hardware, software, printer, and peripheral issues.
The successful candidate will coordinate activities closely with Hampton’s Center for Information Technology teams. As Hampton expands the HU Online program, this role will include planning, designing, and implementing new systems and changes to existing data processing support management control and decision-making activities. This role may train, serve as a resource, and provide technical guidance to staff. Their interactions are typical with fellow team members, but they also interact with assigned students, faculty, or other university staff. Additionally, this position will interact with external vendors or service providers. This position requires on-site work and is not available for remote arrangements.
Job Duties:
- Analyze current and proposed departmental/user hardware and software systems; develop and maintain systems for the various constituencies within the department
- Review proposals which consist of objectives, scope, and user expectations; gather facts, analyze data, and prepare proposal synopses comparing alternatives in terms of cost, time, and availability of resources
- Analyze problems on computer applications and systems for students, faculty, and staff; provide technical assistance to departmental user support staff
- Provide individual and/or group instruction and training to students, faculty, and/or staff on computer technologies.
- Provide technical support for research and development initiatives and for the implementation of new technologies for adoption.
- Support structured programs, as appropriate, using technologically current programming languages to support systems
- In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned
- Support resetting authorized user’s passwords and unlocking accounts
- Answer help desk phones and respond to submitted help desk tickets
Requirements:
- Hands-on application understanding of Windows 2012/2016 environment
- Familiarity with WordPress or web development tools
- Skilled with Windows and Mac OS desktops
- Understanding with networking concepts
- Competencies with critical problem solving, issue identification, analytical and technical documentation skills
- Ability to work independently and productively under pressure
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team environment
Qualifications:
- Bachelors’ degree in Computer Science or equivalent level of training and experience.
- At least 5-7 years of management experience
- Working knowledge of programming analysis, systems design, database design, data communication, network concepts and multiplatform operating systems.
- Ability to lead projects requiring technical coordination thru implementation
- Experience in online higher education and administrative systems
- Experience in Ellucian’s Banner, EAB Navigate, DegreeWorks, and Canvas LMS is a plus
- Strong written and oral communications skills
- Able to support ongoing communications with users and executive management on technical information services and systems
