The Hampton University Department of Chemical Engineering within the School of School of Engineering, Architecture and Aviation invites nominations and applications for a full-time a faculty positions at the rank of Assistant/Associate Assistant Professor with an anticipated starting date of August 2025.

Founded in 1868, Hampton University (www.hamptonu.edu ) is located on approximately 300 acres of the Virginia Peninsula. It is a privately endowed, co-educational, nonsectarian institution of higher education and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools accredits all programs. Hampton University, a member of the Historically Black College and University (HBCU) community of higher education institutions, is currently enjoying tremendous growth and development from traditional teaching to a more research-intensive institution. Hampton University is a Ph.D. level R2 institution of higher learning with a primarily undergraduate student population of 3,516 students pursuing degrees in diverse areas of study.

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include teaching, maintaining a vibrant research program, scholarly activities, securing external funding, and engaging in professional service. The ideal candidates are expected to have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level, evidence of academic scholarship and research ability to publish in peer-reviewed journals, and potential for securing external funds. Primary teaching responsibilities include chemical engineering courses for non-majors and majors with the opportunity to teach upper-level courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. The successful candidates are expected to have a clear understanding of curriculum design and development, engage in student centered undergraduate research, participate in mentoring, and service to the department and university.

Requirements:

  • A Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Environmental Science and Engineering, Tissue Engineering, or a closely related field is required.
  • The ideal candidate will be an exceptional experimental scientist whose research complements the department’s existing strengths.
  • Priority will be given to candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
    • Renewable energies and energy storage
    • Nuclear energy
    • Tissue engineering
    • Biomedical engineering
    • Microfluidic systems
