The Hampton University William R. and Norma B. Harvey Library invites applications for the position of Reference Librarian (part-time).
The mission of the University Libraries, which include the William R. and Norma B. Harvey Library, the architecture department library, and the music department library, is to support the instructional, research, and service needs of the Hampton University community. This is achieved through access and delivery of information services and resources that are essential to academic and teaching excellence, leadership, and lifelong learning.
This part-time position is responsible for providing expert reference and research assistance to students, faculty, and staff on evenings and weekends. This role involves delivering information literacy instruction and collaborating with academic departments to enhance library services. Fall and spring semester hours for this position are as follows: Sunday 1pm-10pm, Monday-Wednesday 6pm-10pm. Hours adjust to reflect library operational hours for summer and university breaks. Applicants must be available to work this schedule.
Job Duties:
- Provide in-depth reference services to users in person and virtually.
- Conduct individual and group information literacy sessions to educate users on effective research strategies and resources.
- Collaborate with faculty to integrate library resources into the curriculum.
- Serve as subject liaison to assigned collection areas.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- At least one year’s experience working in reference services.
- Strong knowledge of research methods and information resources in various disciplines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Proficiency in using library databases, catalogs, and digital resources.
