S. Department of Education to increase the retention and graduation rates among 190 program participants, has been an integral part of the Hampton University community for over fifty years.&nbsp; In addition to providing free tutoring, educational and personal counseling, and grant aid, we equip our program participants to develop the habits of mind that engender long-term academic and professional success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Commensurate with qualifications and experience; includes comprehensive fringe benefit package. &nbsp;This is a grant-funded position.&nbsp; Continuation of the position is contingent upon the continuation of related grant funding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Job Duties:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Student Development Advisor, a full-time 12-month employee, reports to the Student Support Services (SSS) Director and performs the following duties:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Recruit eligible students into Student Support Services and administer the Peer Mentor Program<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Implement targeted academic interventions for low-income, first-generation college students and program participants with documented physical and learning disabilities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make presentations to student groups and help students apply for admission and secure financial aid for graduate\/professional school, including providing information on assistantships, fellowships, and other financial assistance programs&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Conduct (or coordinate) academic wellness, financial aid\/literacy, career development, and socio-cultural workshops in collaboration with the Office of Financial Aid, the Career Center, the Student Counseling Center, the Student Success Center, Student Activities, and outside vendors.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Conduct Mid-term Deficiency and Pre-Registration Counseling to regularly monitor students\u2019 academic progress and make appropriate interventions and referrals<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Advise students on financial aid policies and deadlines<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Collaborate with Program Director to maintain reports on students\u2019 semester and annual academic performance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Attend all Student Support Services\u2019 staff meetings and submit reports as required<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assist the Director with the administrative responsibilities required to manage the program effectively<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Conduct exit interviews with graduates<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Qualifications:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Master\u2019s degree in education, guidance and counseling, or a related discipline.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&nbsp; A minimum of three years of experience in counseling and administrative and supervisory experience.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills and demonstrated ability to work with students from low-income, first-generation college backgrounds and students with disabilities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ability to perform multiple responsibilities simultaneously, to work in a self-directed environment, and to plan and organize on both a daily and long-term basis.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Demonstrated commitment to the goals and objectives of the Student Support Services program.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Student Support Services, a federal TRIO Program funded through the U.
