This includes providing general supervision and management for a classroom of children. Assistant Teacher works with Lead Teacher and staff on developmental activities as part of a comprehensive program for children&#8217;s physical, cognitive, emotional, and social growth, so children can reach their highest potential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Job Duties:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Assist Lead Teachers with planning and facilitating a daily program of care and activities for the assigned classroom.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contribute to the effective operation of the overall childcare program.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assists the Lead Teachers with developing and implementing daily\/weekly activity plans. Responsible for the arrangement of space, setting, and materials in the classroom&nbsp;and with outdoor play equipment, to ensure a safe clean, orderly child centered learning environment, and consistent daily schedule for children&#8217;s calm, comfortable and successful participation in the program.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Promote a multicultural and anti-bias approach to learning and to the center environment. Show respect for each child&#8217;s culture and background and their personal uniqueness.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Participate in, and prepare for center promotional activities, and <a>special events<\/a> as necessary or assigned.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Responsibilities<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ensure the safety and physical well-being of the children.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Maintain a professional working atmosphere and confidentiality of information in relation to staff, children, and families.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Center Director.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Qualifications<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Salary commensurate with Education.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Experience with children is preferred.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A Bachelor\u2019s degree, Associate&#8217;s degree or Certificate in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education with 12 hours in Early Childhood Education, Special Education with 12 hours in Early Childhood Education, a child-related field or a CDA with teaching experience in a NAEYC accredited, play-based, developmentally appropriate preschool program.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively with children, family and staff, and to provide leadership within a team-teaching model.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Trained in blood borne pathogens and certified in infant\/child CPR.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Meets requirements of Virginia Department of Education Childcare Standards for childcare centers and university requirements for physical exam and criminal background check.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Must be available Monday-Friday 7:30am to 5:30 PM.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The assistant teacher&#8217;s primary responsibility is to provide care for children in a child-initiated learning environment.
