The position will be funded through a grant from Amazon Robotics (AR) and will be filled immediately or will remain open until it is filled. The position is located in Hampton, Virginia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Founded in 1868, Hampton University (www.hamptonu.edu) is located on approximately 300 acres of the Virginia Peninsula. It is a privately endowed, co-educational, nonsectarian institution of higher education and is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Hampton University, a Historically Black College and University (HBCU), is enjoying tremendous growth and development from a traditional teaching institution to a more research-intensive institution. Hampton University is currently an R2 Carnegie classification institution of higher learning with a primarily undergraduate student population of approximately 4,200 students pursuing degrees in diverse areas of study.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is pertinent to note that Hampton University is a recipient of an Amazon Robotics (AR) grant to support its work on Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning. The position is a one-year appointment that may be renewed subject to the availability of funds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Job Duties:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The individual selected for this position will be expected to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Conduct independent and collaborative research in AI\/ML, and closely related areas aligned with Amazon Robotics funding and research priorities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lead and contribute to the design, implementation, and evaluation of AI\/ML models, algorithms, and systems in support of sponsored research projects.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Conduct advanced research and publish papers in high-quality peer-reviewed journals and conferences.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contribute to the development, preparation, and submission of grant proposals to federal agencies, foundations, and industry partners.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Serve as principal investigator or co-investigator on externally funded research projects, including managing scientific aims, timelines, and deliverables.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mentor undergraduate research assistants engaged in AI\/ML related projects.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Collaborate with faculty across disciplines to develop and execute joint research initiatives, and labs focused on AI\/ML and its applications.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Engage in seminars and guest lectures in the candidate\u2019s area of expertise.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Participate in research development activities, including workshops, symposia, and strategic planning for AI\/ML research.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Qualifications: &nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The successful applicant must have a doctorate degree in either Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence, or a closely related field with expertise in one or more of the following areas: robotics, machine learning, reinforcement learning, and artificial intelligence. At least five years of academic research experience in AI\/ML at an R-1 or R-2 institution is required. The successful candidate will possess the following skills and abilities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>An established record of research: The candidate should have a strong track record of publishing high-quality research papers in top-tier journals or conferences.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A deep understanding of AI\/ML: The candidate should have a deep understanding of the theoretical foundations of AI\/ML, as well as the latest advances in these fields.
