Hampton University and the City of Hampton are enhancing pedestrian safety on Harvey Way with the installation of a new solar-powered Flashing LED Pedestrian Crossing Sign, designed to increase driver awareness and improve visibility at the crosswalk. As students return to campus and traffic volumes increase, the University reminds Pirates that Harvey Way is a city street and many drivers may be unfamiliar with campus traffic patterns. Pedestrians are encouraged to push the activation button before crossing and make eye contact with approaching drivers, ensuring vehicles are slowing or stopping before entering the crosswalk. Also, please use the crosswalk. This energy-efficient safety improvement reflects Hampton University’s ongoing commitment to accessibility, sustainability, and the well-being of students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
