    The J-1 visa for exchange visitors is a nonimmigrant visa that is designed around the use of sanctioned programs that act as sponsors instead of employers. Here is a quick list of some programs you can apply for under the J-1:

    Researcher and post-doctoral<\/p>

    Finding a designated sponsor: Hampton University is a designated sponsor.<\/p>

    Obtain the form DS-2019 and SEVIS ID processing: 2 \u2013 3 weeks<\/p>

    Completing the DS-160 and scheduling the interview: 2 \u2013 4 weeks<\/p>

    Attending the J-1 visa interview with US embassy abroad.<\/p>

    To maintain a J-1 visa in the USA, follow these guidelines:<\/p>

    Maintain a valid passport and renew it 6 months before expiration.<\/p>

    Request a Program Extension if you will not graduate by the Program End Date.<\/p>

    Keep your DS-2019 up to date.<\/p>

    Attend the school noted on your form DS-2019.<\/p>

    Maintain full-time enrollment.<\/p>

    Have health insurance coverage.<\/p>

    Contact the international office for approval before dropping below a full-time course load or withdraw.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
