Dr. Cuddy’s research focuses on the history, transformation, and adaptation of literary narratives. Her current research projects are centered on Mary Cowden Clarke’s Shakespeare-inspired fiction and nineteenth-century Transatlantic literary studies.<\/p>\n

Dr. Jocelyn Amevuvor obtained her PhD in Curriculum and Instruction, focusing on literacies and English language arts, from Penn State University. She has her master\u2019s in TESOL from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She has taught a range of classes, including English language classes and undergraduate and graduate-level children\u2019s literature courses. Her research interests currently sit at the intersection of children\u2019s literature, multimodal literacies, and pan-African studies.<\/p>\n

Area of Interest: The cross-section between rhetoric, composition, and curriculum and instruction. Recognizing and developing new and innovative instructional strategies to promote critical thinking and integration of new technologies in written and verbal communication.<\/p>

Professor Antoine has had the opportunity to provide instruction to learners and scholars in public and private entities at several academic levels and subjects, including math, science, social studies, English, and English as a Second Language. She has taught grades K-6, 7-8, 9-
12, at the Community College, and at the University level. She holds active professional certifications in California, Texas, and Virginia and is currently eligible for certification in 14 other states. She has worked as a teacher, lead-teacher, and teacher trainer for over 30 years.<\/p>

\u201cI am passionate about fostering critical thinking and encouraging the use of personal voice to communicate new ideas. Providing students with the correct environment to \u201cstruggle\u201d their way into a new understanding of concepts while adding to the general body of knowledge with their unique ideas. Ultimately, the focus always includes a community awareness and service aspect modeled after the ideal that we learn for ourselves and for
others. A rising tide lifts all boats.\u201d<\/p>

Dr. Caskie<\/span>\u2019s research primarily studies the representation of American tourism within popular American media. In particular, he focuses on the Hollywood blockbuster and<\/span> the way it negotiates nationalism, ethnicity, and<\/span> cosmopolitanism in a complex relationship with global business practice. Outside of tourism, Dr. Caskie<\/span> also studies the convention of film subtitles, practices in critical game design, and<\/span> the production of digital environments within virtual reality simulations. Dr. Scott Challener is Associate Professor of English and Interim Dean of the Graduate College at Hampton University, where he serves as the Managing Editor of the <\/span>Hampton Renaissance<\/i>. Scott received his Ph.D. in Literatures in English from Rutgers University, his M.F.A. in Poetry from Warren Wilson College\u2019s Program for Writers, and his M.A. in Spanish from Middlebury College. As a 2023-2204 Virginia Humanities HBCU Scholarship Fellow, he worked toward the completion and revision of his manuscript-in-progress, Translation Is Remediation: The Poetry of the Americas from the Mimeograph to the Platform<\/i>, a study of the relationship between translation and media in the postwar poetry of the Americas. An inagural Mellon HBCU Faculty Fellow for the Institute of Race and Social Transformation at Rhodes College, Scott is a poet-scholar who studies and writes about the 20th- and 21st- century literatures of the Americas. I am a scholar in the field of Comparative Literature, and I received my Ph.D. from SUNY Buffalo. I am currently an Assistant Professor of Comparative Literature at Hampton University, and I have written two books on critical theory and literature. One book deals with the Latin American literary boom, and the other deals with the Harlem Renaissance and psychoanalytic theory. I am interested in critical theory, in the rise of populism in literary traditions and in the hybrid global intersections between cultures and languages. I am fluent in French, Chinese, Spanish and Serbian, and I am semi-fluent in Italian.<\/p>

Margaret Cox was born in Carriacou, Grenada and grew up in Brooklyn, NY. She earned a Bachelor\u2019s in English at Baruch College, graduated with a Master of Arts in English from Brooklyn College, and obtained a Ph.D. in English from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Her research interests are African American, Caribbean, and African literatures, as well as drama. Her scholarly articles include \u201cAlice Walker and Claudia Rankine: Reclaiming the Ocularity of the Self\u201d (2017) and \u201cBuchi Emecheta: Re-imaging the African Feminine Self\u201d (2010).
