(NSPAA-HBCU, Inc.), an esteemed nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of sponsored program administration across HBCUs.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jackson will play a pivotal role in advancing the organization\u2019s mission to improve sponsored research administration through increased technical assistance workshops, conferences, training, and service activities. Sponsored programs serve as a foundation for academic excellence, research innovation, and community impact. These programs provide crucial funding and resources that enable HBCUs to expand their educational offerings, support groundbreaking research, and address pressing societal challenges.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) play a critical role in educating a diverse population, producing nearly 20% of all Black graduates in the United States despite representing just 3% of all postsecondary institutions. However, they continue to face disparities in access to funding for sponsored research compared to their counterparts. Effective management of sponsored programs is key to securing higher research classifications, increasing enrollment in STEM disciplines, and fostering economic development within their communities.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/home.hamptonu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Tijuana-Jackson-headshot-NSPAA-Board.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-21629\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the National Science Foundation, in 2021, HBCUs received less than 1% of the $42 billion allocated by the federal government for research and development funding at U.S. colleges and universities. This underfunding limits their ability to invest in the infrastructure, resources, and faculty needed to expand research capabilities and compete effectively for grants. Enhancing HBCUs\u2019 ability to secure and manage sponsored program funding is vital to addressing these inequities and ensuring their sustainability as engines of academic and economic opportunity.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe celebrate the appointment of Tiajuana Jackson to the NSPAA-HBCU Board of Directors,\u201d said Neelam Azad, Ph.D., vice president for research.&nbsp; \u201cIt\u2019s a reflection of Hampton\u2019s commitment to nurturing leaders, strengthening connections within the broader HBCU community, and advancing HBCUs\u2019 shared mission.
