Welcome

Hampton University Chemistry Education and Mentorship Program (HU-ChEM )

Our three-year National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) and Diversity Program Consortium (DPC) funded program aims to increase students’ persistence in STEM by turning 1st-year gatekeeper Chemistry courses into bridges to success. We will achieve this goal via three evidence-based interventions.

  1. HU-ChEM SCALE-UP deploys innovative active learning chemistry using the Student-Centered Active Learning Environment with Upside-down Pedagogies (SCALE-UP)
  2. HU-ChEM CUREs stimulates science identity and increase the STEM persistence of diverse students with an early introduction to research experiences through Course-based Undergraduate Research Experiences.
  3. HU-ChEM Faculty Development enhances the training of chemistry faculty in cultural competency, research, and mentorship.
