{"id":14533,"date":"2026-05-15T11:35:33","date_gmt":"2026-05-15T15:35:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/home.hamptonu.edu\/science\/?page_id=14533"},"modified":"2026-05-15T15:15:25","modified_gmt":"2026-05-15T19:15:25","slug":"dpt-philosophy-and-mission","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/home.hamptonu.edu\/science\/physical-therapy\/dpt-philosophy-and-mission\/","title":{"rendered":"Department of Physical Therapy Philosophy and Mission"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Philosophy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Faculty in the Hampton University Physical Therapy Program hold the following values and beliefs with respect to physical therapy entry-level education:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Faculty are committed to the training and development of competent entry-level generalist physical therapists who are leaders in the profession and prepared to engage in autonomous practice with integrity and compassion.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Faculty believe that the didactic education of a physical therapy student is best delivered in a multicultural environment that is representative of the diversity of the nation and future patients and clients.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Faculty believe that the development of professional behaviors in students is essential and includes an appreciation and respect for individual and cultural differences.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Faculty value serving the disadvantaged and underserved people in a society and are committed to modeling and instilling this belief in physical therapy program students.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Because the physical therapy profession is dynamic and constantly evolving through research and discovery, the faculty believe that a physical therapist will always be engaged in lifelong learning and is responsible for using the best available evidence to deliver physical therapy services.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mission<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;Mission&nbsp;of the Hampton University Department of Physical Therapy is to provide contemporary physical therapist education in a multicultural learning environment with a special focus on systemically marginalized, under-represented, and under-resourced populations.&nbsp;
