Wayne Dawkins<\/strong>\u00a0has been a professional journalist for more than 24 years, including 16 years at Gannett newspapers in Westchester, New York, and Cherry Hill, New Jersey, NW Indiana, plus the Daily Press of Newport News-Hampton, Virginia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He transitioned to academia two decades ago and taught at Hampton\u2019s Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications, then moved on to Morgan State University School of Global Journalism and Communication. Dawkins returned to Hampton in fall 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He is author of \u201cBlack Journalists: The NABJ Story,\u201d and the sequel \u201cRugged Waters: Black Journalists,\u201d plus the biographies \u201cCity Son<\/a>: Andrew W. Cooper\u2019s Impact on Modern-Day Brooklyn,\u201d [2012] and Emanuel Celler: Immigration and Civil Rights Champion\u201d [2020].<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In July Dawkins published the double biography, \u201cSam Lacy and Wendell Smith<\/a>: The Dynamic Duo that Desegregated American Sports.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
