Overview: Action Area @ VWIEC is a fully equipped makerspace designed to support
the vibrant community of entrepreneurs, HU faculty, and students. Located within the
Virginia Workforce Innovation and Entrepreneurial Center (VWIEC), our facility offers a
wide range of high-tech tools and flexible workspaces perfect for everything from prototype
development to artistic endeavors.

Membership is open exclusively to
- VWIEC Participants: For those creating business products or prototypes.
- Hampton University Affiliates: Students and faculty can use the space for school work, projects, or research.

Materials Use: Members pay only for the materials they use, keeping initial costs low and projects affordable.

Manage your Action Area experience with ease using the
Coworks App. This powerful tool allows members to:
- Book Equipment: Reserve machines and workstations as needed.
- Purchase Materials: Buy materials directly through the app—pay only for what you use.
- Join Workshops: Sign up for classes and workshops with just a few taps.
- Network and Collaborate: Connect with other members, share ideas, and collaborate on
projects.

– The makerspace is available to participants of VWIEC who are creating business
products and to Hampton University students and faculty for academic work or research.
3. How do I become a member of Action Area?
– Membership is free and open to eligible VWIEC participants and Hampton University
affiliates. To register, please visit our website, complete the membership application, and
attend a mandatory orientation session.
4. What costs are associated with using the makerspace?
– While membership is free, members must pay for the materials they use. Prices vary
based on the type and quantity of materials. All equipment usage is included in the
membership at no extra cost.
5. Can I reserve equipment in advance?
– Yes, members can reserve equipment using the Coworks App. This app allows you to
book machines and workspaces in advance to ensure availability when you need it.
6. Are there any educational programs available at Action Area?
– Yes, we offer a variety of workshops and classes designed to enhance skills in areas
such as 3D printing, publication printing, and apparel design. These programs are free for
members and can be booked through the Coworks App.
