KYLE KENREIGH

Lead Welding Instructor

Mr. Kyle Kenreigh is the newly appointed Lead Welding Instructor for Hampton University’s Workforce Development department.  Mr. Kenreigh is a Hampton native and graduated from Phoebus High School in 2008. Mr. Kenreigh’s love for welding and passion for teaching started in 2006 after enrolling in a Welding course at New Horizons Regional Education Center in Hampton. Upon completing the Welding program at New Horizons, Mr. Kenreigh was selected to be in Liebherr Mining Equipment’s first Welding Apprenticeship program, which was also Virginia’s first two-year Welding Apprenticeship program. In 2010, at just 20 years old, Mr. Kenreigh graduated from Liebherr’s Apprenticeship program and became a Journeyman welder, holding more than 20 welding qualifications. In 2011, while still working for Liebherr Mining Equipment as a fabricator during the day, Mr. Kenreigh accepted a part-time position as an Adjunct Welding Instructor for New Horizons Regional Education Center. For the next 6 years Mr. Kenreigh would hone his skills during the day and train the next generation of welders at night while working both jobs. During that time Mr. Kenreigh became interested in Quality Assurance and would subsequently become a Certified Quality Auditor in 2017 with the American Society for Quality. In 2018 Mr. Kenreigh would leave both Liebherr Mining Equipment and New Horizons Regional Education Center to accept a full-time Welding Instructor position with Tidewater Tech in Norfolk Virginia. After 1 year in that position, Mr. Kenreigh earned the prestigious Certified Welding Inspector credential from the American Welding Society and began working as a Certified Welding Inspector and Test Supervisor for Tidewater Tech. After spending 3 years in that role Mr. Kenreigh was offered the position of Lead Welding Instructor for Hampton University, which he considers to be the achievement of his lifetime.
