This summer, Hampton University Museum hosted our first Virtual Tree House Summer Camp. The pandemic did not stop the crafts, laughs, games and storytelling streamed in each campers homes each and every day during the week of July 13 – 17, 2020. Fifteen participants hailed from Montana, Georgia, Maryland, Alabama and the Hampton Roads area. Daily activities included ice breakers, arts and crafts related to the museum’s stellar collection, story time and daily challenges all facilitated virtually through the Zoom platform and our website. The week culminated with an art show and scavenger hunt based on everything that was learned during the week. When asked to produce a piece of cloth like in the book, The Patchwork Path- A Quilt Map to Freedom, one camper (coincidently named Hampton) pulled out his, Future HU Grad, t-shirt. Once again proving that Hampton is the Standard of Excellence!
