INTERNATIONAL REVIEW OF AFRICAN AMERICAN ART

As you our supporters may know the International Review of African American Art (IRAAA) has not been published since our last issue, volume 30, no. 2 in 2020.  Due to Covid 19 and the expense to print this class-act journal we have taken a pause.  Through the generous funding of The Terra Foundation of American Art the Hampton University Museum is currently collaborating with a consultant to analyze, assess and re-situate the IRAAA.
 
In 1976, Dr. Samella Sanders Lewis, and friends began Black Art: an international quarterly.  Lewis and friends, concern about the low visibility of African American artists, was transferred to Hampton University when we acquired the journal in 1991 with Juliette Harris, as the editor until her retirement.  It is even more important today that we continue the legacy of Dr. Lewis.
 
We will keep you updated on our progress.  In the meantime, please purchase back issues of the journal when you visit the Museum or visit our online Store.
