As an R1 institution, Hampton will add to existing knowledge as it creates new leaders for our nation and world. In this section, one is presented with the strategies identified to help HU deliver the #1 student experience and become a consistent leader in research.

STRATEGIES AND KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

2.1 Attract the best students to our graduate programs and provide them with competitive levels of support.

2.2 Develop new and innovative doctoral programs in Humanities, Behavioral Sciences and Social Sciences to optimize anticipated partnerships and strategic opportunities.

2.3 Develop new and innovative doctoral programs in the STEM fields after University’s submission of its SACSCOC Decennial Report.

2.4 Continue to develop new masters’ programs, including opportunitiesfor undergraduates to take a 5th year before entering the workforce.

2.5 Strategically increase investment in research expenditures that will positively impact the achievement of R1 status.

2.6 Elevate Hampton University’sleadership in education by creating a PK-12 Laboratory School that awards the International Baccalaureate® (IB) Diploma.

2.7 Increase the number of research citations in each academic school annually.

a. Reduce the average cost of attendance of doctoral students by 25%. 

b. Reduce the average student loan debt of doctoral students to 0%. 

c. Increase fiscal support options for graduate students.

d. Reduce the faculty-to-student ratio for doctoral students by 25%.

e. Develop a comprehensive program that prepares graduate students for their future careers as evidenced by employment or additional study acceptance within six months of graduation.

f. Complete viability assessment of international and domestic satellite campuses.

g. Create a system of academic prizes and awards to stimulate graduate student productivity.

h. Break ground on HU Technology Research and Innovation Park
