Amazon Robotics, Hampton University team up to establish robotics program

Amazon funding will assist with a senior capstone course where students will receive mentorship from Amazon leading researchers, software developers, and engineers.

To help expand the diversity of the talent that will shape the future of robotics, Amazon has invested in a number of academic engagements with colleges and universities, including a new collaboration with Hampton University.

At Hampton University, a historically black college and university (HBCU) based in Hampton, Virginia known for its cutting-edge STEM research, Amazon Robotics is funding the establishment of a robotics degree program.

The grippers are now fully functional.  Students can use the Xbox One controller or Kortex Web App to control the arms.  

Again, please remind the students to make sure to rest the arm on the foam pad before power off the robot.

Introducing young students to technology before they reach higher education can increase their ability to become innovative critical thinkers and more creative members of the future workforce. As the government and private sectors address the need and importance of robotics, programs and laws are emerging that incorporate this technology into their public education system. Hampton is teaching students the basics of robotics and thereby exposing them to the realities and exciting opportunities of a future that includes robotics in science, engineering, and business.
