Bereavement Fund
Thanks to the generosity of the New York Life Foundation, the BSP is able to provide financial assistance for students who have lost a caregiver or close relative while attending Hampton University. This emergency fund is designed to relieve financial and emotional stressors for students while grieving their loved ones, by providing reimbursement for costs related to the loss. The maximum grant amount per student is $1,000.
Eligibility Requirements
In order to be eligible for reimbursement through the bereavement fund, students must:
- Be enrolled part-time or full-time in a diploma, certificate, associate, bachelor’s degree, or graduate program at the time of the aid request.
- Submit a complete application to the BSP along with supporting documentation of the financial need (i.e., travel expense receipts, housing accommodations, financial assistance due to missed days at work, etc.)
- Have already made payments for the expenses related to the loss. This fund is for reimbursement only, rather than anticipated costs.
- Be enrolled during the semester in which the bereavement aid funds are awarded.
- Submit their application materials during the same semester the expenses were incurred, except in extenuating circumstances.
If you are eligible and interested in applying for expense reimbursement, please fill out the application below and send the completed form along with supporting documentation to bereavementservices@hamptonu.edu.
