Please follow the instructions below to set up VPN access and RDC for a user.
VPN Access
If you need to use Banner or access files on your work computer on-site, you will need to establish a Remote Desktop Connection. If necessary, contact the helpdesk to enable a Remote Desktop Connection to the work computer from outside via a VPN connection. (Email: HelpDesk@hamptonu.edu or call (757) 727-5959). Record the name or IP address of the computer which helpdesk technician will provide to you.
Step 1: Type: https://137.198.10.31 (in browser bar).
Step 2: Enter Infotech credentials to login (First.last name & password)
Step 3: Click on link: Windows 7/Vista/64/XP
(this link also works for Win 10 & some Macs; however, Win 10 is strongly recommended.)
Step 4: Click on ‘Run’ then download/install the AnyConnect Client.
Step 5: Once installation is complete you should see the “AnyConnect Security Mobility Client” icon in your Start section. Right-click on that icon to create a desktop shortcut for easy access.
Step 6: To confirm proper installation, click on that icon – a VPN box should appear at the bottom right of the computer screen.
Step 7: Prior to completing the next step, you need to ensure that you are not on the University’s network. Enable and connect to a hotspot if you are doing this on campus.
Step 8: Enter huasavpn.hamptonu.edu in the VPN box. Once prompted, enter your Infotech credentials again. Your VPN connection should be established.
Step 9: Once your VPN access has been established, you will connect to your “on campus computer”, via a Remote Desktop Connection. You can type in start column to find Remote Desktop. Again, make sure you know the name of or IP address of your work computer. [You can find your work computer name under THIS PC (RIGHT CLICK AND CLICK ON PROPERTIES).] Type in the PC name or IP address in the box, then click “Connect”.
Step 10: Click “Yes” to the warning message saying “The identity of the remote computer cannot be verified. Do you want to connect anyway?”
Step 11: Enter Infotech credentials, and click “OK”
You should now be remotely connected to your computer.
