The department of music and performing arts at Hampton University, which houses the BA in Music (Performance and Music Education Pre-Certification), BS in Music Technology, BS, in Audio Production, BA in Theatre (Performance and Technical Theatre) is seeking to fill a faculty position at the Assistant Professor level beginning Fall 2024.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate must be committed to teaching undergraduate courses, such as a Costume and Make up Design, Stagecraft, Theatre, Humanities, Communications, and other discipline related topics. The individual will oversee the costume shop, costume storage, dressing rooms, and costume design program. Additionally, successful candidates are expected to advertise Music and Performing Arts majors and hold office hours. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the scholarly advancement of the department through a productive research agenda that includes grantsmanship. Candidates should demonstrate dedication to the progress of the Music and Performing Arts Department, the School of Liberal Arts and Education, and the university, through service activities and will perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualified candidate must have an earned Master’s degree in custom design, or closely related field from an accredited university. Experience in and evidence of successful teaching in a university setting is preferred. Demonstrated achievement as a costume designer through a portfolio that documents, professional activity, and productions. Proficiency and teaching costume design, make up design, and practical skills in theater. Preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated experience and research/creative, productivity, and grantsmanship. Although there is an expectation of hiring at the assistant professor rank, we will consider filling the position at a higher rank depending upon the qualifications of the applicant. Rank and compensation are commensurate with the credentials and experience.
