Associate Professor of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence
Job description:
The Hampton University School of Engineering, Architecture, & Aviation and School of Science are seeking a candidate for a joint appointment in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Department of Computer Science as an endowed Associate Professor of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence. The joint appointment is preferred to be in early 2024 but position will be open until filled.
It is pertinent to note that Amazon Robotics is investing in Hampton University to establish and nurture a world renowned program in Robotics and AI and support of this endowed professorship.
Founded in 1868, Hampton University (www.hamptonu.edu) is located on approximately 300 acres of the Virginia Peninsula. It is a privately endowed, co-educational, nonsectarian institution of higher education and is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Hampton University, an Historically Black College and University (HBCU), is enjoying tremendous growth and development from a traditionally teaching to a more research-intensive institution. Hampton University is currently a Masters-level institution of higher learning with a primarily undergraduate student population of approximately 4,600 students pursuing degrees in diverse areas of study.
Job Duties:
Hampton University is seeking a candidate for a joint appointment at the Associate Professor level in Robotics, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. The individual selected for this position will be expected to contribute to the educational missions of the Departments of Electrical & Computer Engineering and Computer Science through teaching, curriculum development, and research related to Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning The selected candidate will be responsible for supervising a graduate students and working with the Engineering and Computer Science faculty to develop and manage a Robotics Research Laboratory and program
Qualifications:
The successful applicant must have earned a doctorate degree in either Robotics, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field with expertise in robotics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, automation, and/or cloud-based computing.
The successful candidate will possess the following skills and abilities:
- A distinguished record of research: The candidate should have a strong track record of publishing high-quality research papers in top-tier journals and conferences. They should also have a strong track record of securing external funding for their research.
- A deep understanding of robotics and AI: The candidate should have a deep understanding of the theoretical foundations of robotics and AI, as well as the latest advances in these fields. They should also be familiar with a variety of robotics and AI techniques.
- A proven ability to mentor students: The candidate should have a proven ability to mentor and train graduate students and postdoctoral researchers. They should be able to create a supportive learning environment that encourages students to reach their full potential.
- A vision for the future of robotics and AI: The candidate should have a clear vision for the future of robotics and AI. They should be able to articulate their research goals and how they plan to achieve them.
- A commitment to diversity and inclusion: The candidate should be committed to creating a diverse and inclusive research environment. They should be able to attract and retain researchers from all backgrounds.
