Routing/ Switching Engineer- Center for Information Technology

This position is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the routing and switching infrastructure of the organization’s network. It also involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, ensuring network stability, and implementing best practices to optimize routing and switching performance.

This is a grant-funded position. Continuation of the position is contingent upon the continuation of related grant funding.

Job Duties:

  • Design, deploy, and maintain routing and switching infrastructure based on organizational requirements.
  • Implement and configure routers, switches, and other networking devices.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure technology services team to develop scalable and efficient network solutions.
  • Monitor network performance and proactively identify and resolve issues related to routing and switching.
  • Optimize routing protocols and switch configurations to ensure efficient traffic flow.
  • Conduct regular performance assessments and implement improvements as needed.
  • Implement security measures in routing and switching protocols to safeguard network integrity.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations related to network security.
  • Conduct security audits and implement measures to address vulnerabilities.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot network issues, including routing errors and switch malfunctions.
  • Provide technical support to end-users and collaborate with the IT helpdesk to resolve networking-related incidents.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for troubleshooting procedures.
  • Plan and execute network expansion projects, including the integration of new routers and switches.
  • Evaluate and recommend upgrades to existing network infrastructure to meet growing business needs.
  • Coordinate with vendors for procurement of networking equipment.
  • Work collaboratively with IT team members and other departments to ensure seamless integration of network services.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders to gather requirements and provide updates on network projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.
  • Proven experience as a Routing/Switch Engineer or in a similar role.
  • In-depth knowledge of routing protocols (e.g., OSPF, BGP) and switching technologies.
  • Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
  • Hands-on experience with configuring and troubleshooting routers, switches, and network protocols.
  • Good knowledge of internet security and data privacy principles
  • Certification as a network engineer will be an advantage (e.g. CCNP, CCNA, etc.)
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Outstanding organizational and time-management skills.
