This position is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the routing and switching infrastructure of the organization’s network. It also involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, ensuring network stability, and implementing best practices to optimize routing and switching performance.
This is a grant-funded position. Continuation of the position is contingent upon the continuation of related grant funding.
Job Duties:
- Design, deploy, and maintain routing and switching infrastructure based on organizational requirements.
- Implement and configure routers, switches, and other networking devices.
- Collaborate with infrastructure technology services team to develop scalable and efficient network solutions.
- Monitor network performance and proactively identify and resolve issues related to routing and switching.
- Optimize routing protocols and switch configurations to ensure efficient traffic flow.
- Conduct regular performance assessments and implement improvements as needed.
- Implement security measures in routing and switching protocols to safeguard network integrity.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations related to network security.
- Conduct security audits and implement measures to address vulnerabilities.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot network issues, including routing errors and switch malfunctions.
- Provide technical support to end-users and collaborate with the IT helpdesk to resolve networking-related incidents.
- Develop and maintain documentation for troubleshooting procedures.
- Plan and execute network expansion projects, including the integration of new routers and switches.
- Evaluate and recommend upgrades to existing network infrastructure to meet growing business needs.
- Coordinate with vendors for procurement of networking equipment.
- Work collaboratively with IT team members and other departments to ensure seamless integration of network services.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders to gather requirements and provide updates on network projects.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.
- Proven experience as a Routing/Switch Engineer or in a similar role.
- In-depth knowledge of routing protocols (e.g., OSPF, BGP) and switching technologies.
- Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
- Hands-on experience with configuring and troubleshooting routers, switches, and network protocols.
- Good knowledge of internet security and data privacy principles
- Certification as a network engineer will be an advantage (e.g. CCNP, CCNA, etc.)
