The Center for Information Technology has an immediate opening for a full-time position of Assistant Vice President for Information Technology (AVPI-T). The AVP-IT is a senior leadership position responsible for assisting the Vice President for Information Technology (VPIT) in the strategic planning, development, and implementation of information technology initiatives. The AVP-IT collaborates closely with executive leadership, department heads, and key stakeholders to ensure that IT strategies align with business objectives and support the university’s mission and vision. The AVP-IT provides oversight of IT operations, leads technology projects, and manages a team of IT professionals to deliver high-quality services and solutions.  

Job Duties: 

  • Operations Management: Provide daily management oversight of IT operations. Work with staff as needed to resolve IT issues in a timely fashion. 
  • Strategic Planning: Assist the VP-IT in developing and executing the university’s IT strategic plan, aligning IT initiatives with business goals and objectives. 
  • Leadership and Management: Assist the VP-IT in providing leadership and assistance to the directors of the various Division of Information Technology service units, including setting goals, and prioritizing projects. 
  • Project Management: Assist the VP-IT to oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of IT projects, ensuring that they are completed on time, within budget, and according to specifications.  
  • Technology Innovation: Identify emerging technologies and trends that can drive innovation and improve operational efficiency within the university. 
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with executive leadership, department heads, and external partners to understand their technology needs and priorities. 
  • Policy Development: Develop and implement IT policies, procedures, and standards to ensure compliance, security, and effective IT governance. 
  • Risk Management: Working with the IT security team, assess and mitigate IT-related risks, including cybersecurity threats, data breaches, and regulatory compliance issues. Coordinate with appropriate service units to ensure all IT auditor reports and inquiries are developed and submitted promptly. 
  • Budget Management: Assist the VP-IT in the development and management of the IT budget, monitoring expenditures and optimizing resource allocation to maximize return on investment. Manage inventory of IT assets and work with the university inventory management to account for all investments made in the division.  
  • Performance Monitoring: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure the effectiveness and efficiency of IT operations and services. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, or a related field.  A master’s degree is preferred. 
  • Proven experience in IT leadership roles, with at least 5-7 years of progressive experience in managing IT operations and projects. 
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team to achieve common goals. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues at all levels of the university. 
  • Deep understanding of IT infrastructure, systems, and applications, with hands-on experience in implementing and managing enterprise-level IT solutions. 
  • Knowledge of IT governance frameworks, such as COBIT or ITIL, and experience in developing and implementing IT policies and procedures. 
  • Experience in project management methodologies, such as Agile or Waterfall, and proficiency in project management tools and techniques. 
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and best practices, with experience in developing and implementing IT security strategies and protocols. 
  • Relevant certifications such as CISSP, PMP, or ITIL, and experience working at a higher education are highly desirable.
