DESCRIPTION

The Department of Architecture at Hampton University invites applications for a full-time, nine-month faculty position starting on August 19, 2024 at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank. Both tenured and non-tenured track applications candidates will be reviewed. Founded in 1868, Hampton University is a leading historically black university (HBCU) located on the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. It is a privately endowed, co-educational, nonsectarian institution.

The Department of Architecture offers a unique five-year, Master of Architecture, first professional degree program, accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board. The Department is dedicated to the promotion of critical inquiry, technical understanding, and community design leadership in architecture. The department is seeking a faculty member who can contribute to the vision of the university as a whole with an energetic disposition and an ability to inspire students.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will be expected to teach a design studio and specialized courses in the area of architectural history and/or architectural fabrication using analytical tools and varied architectural CAD software.

Candidates should have the ability to creatively integrate digital technology with design courses as well as have the potential for innovative achievement in a specific area of research and/or practice. 

Candidates will also be required to perform all other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum qualifications include a professional degree in architecture (Bachelor or Master of Architecture or equivalent) or professional certification (professional engineer or architecture license) and professional or academic experience in the design or building technology.

Candidates must provide evidence of excellence in design studio teaching and demonstrate expertise in the teaching of one or more of the following areas: building, community and urban design, as well as environmental and building technology. Additional teaching areas consistent with our degree program and community design mission are also sought.
