Director of Enterprise Application Services- DoIT

The Director of Enterprise Application Services (EAS) will be responsible for leading the strategic planning, development, data quality, and execution of enterprise-wide information systems at Hampton University. This individual will oversee the implementation and maintenance of software applications that support the university’s administrative operations and academic mission. This is a full-time position and on-premise.

Job Duties:

  • Reports to the Assistant Vice President of Information Technology.
  • Oversees and manages support for Banner and other applications used throughout the university.
  • These support services include installation, configuration, hosting, troubleshooting, technical testing, updates, and integration.
  • Provides technical leadership, planning, and guidance for the implementation or upgrade of applications, and the design and development of new applications or interfaces.
  • Provides technical expertise in the development of strategic plans and selection of annual goals and objectives.
  • Monitors new developments and industry best practices to incorporate into operational management and planning for enterprise systems, and actively promotes the creative use of technology to improve productivity and enhance customer service across the university.
  • Works with ITS and campus leaders to assess incidents, develop and implement response plans, and monitor developments.
  • Provides technical expertise and staff resources to support these efforts.
  • Works with the AVP and clients to evaluate and select technology solutions.
  • Manage a broad range of IT applications including but not limited to the ERP (Banner), Evisions (Argos, MAPS, FormFusion, IntelleCheck), Oracle SFP, DegreeWorks, Blackbaud, Canvas, StarRez, Appworx, among others.
  • Facilitate delivery of required IT components in new system/vendor application implementations at various stages from start to post-implementation.
  • Ensure effective operation and availability of all enterprise applications via server and data monitoring.
  • Intake and service the University’s enterprise reporting/data extract needs, including but not limited to report creation, modification, and training, ensuring quality control over all deliverables.
  • Identify, streamline, and automate IT and business processes using the Appworx automation software tool.
  • Lead efforts to optimize user provisioning and cleanup across multiple systems like MAPS, Banner, Oracle, etc., improving operational efficiency.
  • Identify on-prem application server consolidation opportunities and operational pre-production and production environments.
  • Design and rollout reusable coding and peer review development techniques.
  • Implement strategies for process documentation streamlining.
  • Works with the leadership of DoIT and directors of campus departments to provide the enterprise applications and technology support required to fulfill the university’s mission, and provide applications support for other departments within the division.
  • Works with DoIT and university leaders to review special or unique technology needs, assess and select solutions, and provide support as resources allow.
  • This position provides technical expertise to support these situations or works with other DoIT leaders to identify appropriate expertise among staff members.
  • Other activities as assigned. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or related field.
  • Minimum of three years experience in a leadership role within an enterprise resource planning team.

Required Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in Banner ERP systems management.
  • Expertise in managing diverse IT applications on-premise and in-cloud/hosted.
  • Strong knowledge of Oracle database administration.
  • Strong SQL skills.
  • Familiarity with process documentation, code development, and data governance best practices.
  • Knowledge of server architecture principles.
  • Experience with process automation software.
