Job description:  

The Hampton University School of Nursing invites motivated Registered Nurse applicants for full-time 9 month faculty position in the Department of Undergraduate Nursing Education (baccalaureate program). 


Founded in 1868, Hampton University is a leading historically black university (HBCU) located on the Virginia Peninsula in the City of Hampton.  It is a privately endowed, co-educational, nonsectarian institution.  The School of Nursing is fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The degrees offered are Baccalaureate, Masters, DNP and PhD in Nursing. The Baccalaureate programs are composed of the four-year traditional curriculum (Hampton campus) and the three-year Accelerated curriculum (COVB), LPN to BS and RN to BS online. Students are taught to embrace those personal value.

Job Duties:

  • Teach didactic and/or clinical courses effectively within their disciplines (baccalaureate, masters and doctoral classes)
  • Prepare adequate instructional methods, materials and equipment in advance of class meetings;
  • Develop well-defined procedures for evaluating student progress;
  • Provide academic advisement and professional support to students;
  • Support university-sponsored programs, lecture series, cultural arts programs, seminars, and other university functions;
  • Serve on department, school and university committees;
  • Engage in scholarship and research appropriate to his/her field/discipline.
  • Participate in program development, and evaluation of students relative to admission, progression retention and graduation.
  • Develop, implement, evaluate and revise the undergraduate curriculum, philosophy.
  • Others duties as directed  

Qualifications:  

Candidates must hold a master’s in nursing (doctoral preferred) and possess and unencumbered license to practice as a RN in the Commonwealth of Virginia or one of the compact states. Applicants must have 3-5 years teaching experience, with at least two of those years in clinical agency. Applicants must possess strong organizational skills, excellent oral and written communication and an ability to create an environment conducive to student learning. Experience with Microsoft Office suite products.
