Assistant Director- Career Center

The Assistant Director assists the Director, as assigned, in the administration and success of Career Center programs and objectives. In addition, the Assistant Director is responsible for administering and supporting campus wide Internship Programs.

Job Duties:

  • Assists the director as needed with the planning of all individual and group career counseling and career planning services for Hampton University students
  • Serves as the primary contact for the Cooperative Education/Internship Program
  • Provides assistance to students seeking co/ops/ internships by serving as a liaison to academic departments concerning credit issues and program information, by providing career information about full-time and internship opportunities;  assists with all aspects of professional credential preparation, including resume writing and interviewing skills development and improvement
  • Attends on-campus events hosted by Admissions and other academic programs
  • Ensures the internship learning experience for students is effective by working closely with faculty advisors
  • Facilitates employer recruitment of students by identifying, locating, and referring eligible students for co-op/internship placement
  • Ensures quality work experiences for students by assisting employers in the development and review of positions, which complement and enhance students’ academic and professional goals
  • Promotes a positive work experience for students after placement, through follow-up activities with students and employers
  • Promotes career services by making presentations to classes and student organizations and assisting with coordinating special events, programs, receptions, etc.
  • Promotes the University and career services through participating in professional organizations
  • Contributes to the overall success of career services by performing all duties and responsibilities as assigned
  • Represents the director at meetings and conferences as requested
  • Travels to workshops and conferences to enrich the Career Center services, as needed
  • Provides support to the planning and implementation of Career Center events
  • Other duties as assigned           

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Business Administration or related field
  • Minimum of two years of effective experience in career counseling of college students
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Must have an outstanding work ethic and possess the ability to communicate with students, faculty, business and industry representatives
  • Must have the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment and be available for some evening and weekend Career Center events
  • Experience working within a cooperative education, internship or other experiential learning program or experience leading a related student-focused program area at a college or in an industry setting is a plus
  • Excellent computer skills required
