Hampton University invites nominations and applications for the Chairperson of the Department of Physics. Review of applications will commence immediately and continue until the position is filled.
Founded in 1868, Hampton University is a leading historically black university (HBCU) located on the Virginia Peninsula in the City of Hampton. It is a privately endowed, co-educational, nonsectarian institution. The School of Science offers degrees in the areas/departments of atmospheric and planetary sciences, biology, chemistry and biochemistry, computer science, communicative and speech disorders, marine and environmental science, mathematics, physics and physical therapy.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Department Chairperson at Hampton University serves dual roles as administrators and faculty members. The Chairperson is expected to articulate administrative goals and directives to the faculty in a manner that enhances the smooth operation of Hampton University, and to carry out specific responsibilities as assigned. Responsibilities include scheduling classes for students, advising students, monitoring faculty syllabi and classes to ensure excellence in teaching, and other duties as assigned by the Dean. The Chairperson works with the Dean, Assistant Dean, and other faculty members, and reports directly to the Dean of the School of Science to which they are assigned.
Qualifications
- Earned Ph.D. in Physics with significant academic experience.
- Demonstrated outstanding records of teaching, research, scholarly activities, grantsmanship, service, and leadership.
- Minimum three years of experience as an academic administrative leadership.
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work with individuals and groups representing a wide range of academic and administrative interests.
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.
- Salary range for this position depends on experience.
