Computer Technician/ Network Administrator- Pharmacy

This position is for an enthusiastic system administrator managing many of the Hampton University School of Pharmacy computer client and server-based technologies. This position is also responsible for recommending both short-term and long-term direction for the school’s technology needs and all aspects of systems administration (within the confines of the School of Pharmacy, under limitations set by the Center for Information Technology (CIT)) including applications, databases, and networks. This includes implementation, configuration, coordination, control, maintenance, troubleshooting, security, usage monitoring and the development of specialized system procedures. In addition, the individual will also be responsible for maintenance of all computers and associated technologies, including both hardware and software updates as applicable.

 Job Duties:

  • Perform end-user computer system administration and maintenance
  • Troubleshoot basic networking issues, escalate to the Networking division when required
  • Assist in the design of training, marketing materials and departmental reports and with the facilitation of technology used to promote the teaching/learning environment with faculty, staff and students.
  • Serve as a member of and work collaboratively with the Technology and Web Committee to maintain and update the school’s technology and website.
  • Manage all objects in the school’s Organizational Unit in Active Directory to include shared folder and network printer access.
  • Support the Learning Management System (using Canvas) for departmental use-in providing course and user support to faculty and students in addition to organizational communication to faculty, staff and students.
  • Provide support for the administration of examinations and assessments across various platforms including Exam Master Online®, ExamSoft®, PCOA®, and other testing platforms.
  • Provide technical support to all Pharmacy faculty, staff, and students (approximately 250 end-users).
  • Recommend and submit purchase requests for all technology, maintenance and upgrade plans. Main activities include maintaining relationships with computer resellers, technical support representatives, and tracking the shipping and receiving of new and/or replacement computer systems and parts.

Qualifications:

  • Three or more years of supporting and troubleshooting Windows and Mac based clients
  • Experience supporting locally, and network attached printers
  • Experience in Windows Server administration
  • Well versed in Active Directory and group policy
  • Strong sense of logic and troubleshooting ability
  • Familiarity with current scripting and automation methods
  • Familiarity with HTML/CSS and other web-based technologies
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office 2016 Office suite

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, related engineering field, or equivalent training and/or experience
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and independently on important projects
  • PREFERRED: Current Windows Certification
