Assistant Director for Strategic Communications- Athletics

Hampton University, a member of the Colonial Athletic Association, is seeking a full-time Assistant Director of Strategic Communications to publicize the University’s Division I athletics program.

Job Duties:

  • Candidate must have experience and a strong knowledge of statistical software programs (Genius Live Stats) for in-game stats and live statistics.
  • Experience with social media and website maintenance required.
  • Cover assigned sports, including both men’s and women’s teams.
  • Write press releases for assigned sports.
  • Host media at athletic events.
  • Develop positive relationships with the media, coaches, administration, and stakeholders.
  • Assist as department’s liaison with Flo Sports television production.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Two years of experience in collegiate communications.
  • Strong computer skills and related software capability.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and supervise student interns.
  • Availability to travel on weekends and holidays, as needed.

Requirements:

  • Must have excellent written and verbal skills
  • Demonstrate the ability to manage complex issues and relationships
  • Experience at a CAA institution, conference, or professional sports organization preferred.
