The Academic Coordinator for the William R. Harvey Leadership Institute will assist Leadership Fellows develop academic plans and goals, identify barriers to retention and degree completion, leverage available resources, and provide guidance and support as students pursue their academic goals and attain their minor in Leadership Studies degree. The successful candidate reports to the Director of the William R. Harvey Leadership Institute (WRHLI).
Job Duties:
The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and or abilities required for a seamless transition into this position. The successful candidate will be expect to:
- Provide academic support, conduct orientation, mentoring and evaluation for all WRHLI activities and events to include Induction and Graduation Ceremony, High School Leadership Summit, Leadership Conference, and Meet The Leaders Series….etc.
- Maintain volunteer hours for the Leadership Institute and the Leadership Fellows. Organize community service projects with high schools, civic/social organizations and partnerships with corporate stakeholders.
- Process applications and set interviews for incoming students entering the program.
- Assist with student advising and provides current, accurate information regarding the curriculum.
- Assist students regarding educational issues, such as course and program selection, class scheduling and registration.
- Assist with exam/test administration and developing exam schedules.
- Review transcripts to ensure that Leadership Fellows meet graduation requirements.
- Conducts curriculum and program evaluations on a continual basis.
- Assist in the development of both a long-range and a short-range strategic plan for the program.
- Provides recommendations to the Director relative to faculty loads and course schedule.
- Maintains a list of qualified adjunct faculty, coordinates faculty review, update and order textbooks.
- Specify equipment and supplies to be ordered within an established budget and in compliance with university regulations.
- Assist the Director with the budgeting process. Establishes program direction and objectives, prepares and administers budget and manages available resources.
- Performs other duties as assigned for the betterment of the William R Harvey Leadership Institute and Hampton University.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree with higher education and counseling experience.
- A minimum of 5-7 years of college/university experience with administrative and supervisory experiences and or certification training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively use technology as it relates to social media.

- Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills while interacting with a diverse population of constituencies to include Leadership Fellows, students, faculty, staff, administration and the public.
