JOB DESCRIPTION:

Hampton University is seeking to hire a dynamic and innovative individual to serve as the Director of the Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE). This individual will report to the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and lead the development and implementation of programs and initiatives to enhance teaching excellence and promote innovative pedagogical practices across the University.

The Director will work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administration to support effective teaching and learning strategies, cultivate a culture of continuous improvement, and ensure that instructional practices align with the University’s mission and strategic goals. Additionally, the Director will promote and support faculty in using new and innovative learning technologies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Collaborate with faculty, academic leadership, and HU Online.
  • Collaborate with other university units and external organizations to improve the CTE’s programs and services and enhance teaching and learning on a larger scale.
  • Create and implement programs, workshops, and resources to assist faculty in adopting effective teaching practices and integrating technology into their instruction.
  • Cultivate a collaborative environment that fosters active learning, innovation, and the exchange of best practices in teaching and learning.
  • Develop strategies to address the varied needs of instructors, including new faculty, full-time tenure-track faculty, teaching professors, and adjunct faculty.
  • Fulfill other duties as required.
  • Develop various forms of assessment for faculty and help them incorporate those assessments to enhance the student learning outcomes.
  • Oversee the development and delivery of professional development opportunities for faculty, teaching workshops, and individual consultations.
  • Provide forward-thinking leadership for the Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE), setting strategic goals and priorities.
  • Research on teaching and learning and share findings through presentations, publications, and other professional activities.
  • Spearhead initiatives to promote effective teaching practices and support all learners, focusing on encouraging and aiding faculty in using new and innovative learning technologies.
  • Work with academic departments, faculty, and other stakeholders to identify and respond to teaching and learning needs.

QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • An earned terminal degree from an accredited university in a discipline consistent with Hampton University’s academic mission.
  • A minimum of five (5) years experience in a higher education setting, with demonstrated success in teaching, faculty development, or a related area.
  • Commitment to and experience with active and applied learning.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management abilities, including budget and personnel management.
  • Evidence of scholarly activity related to teaching and learning, such as publications, presentations, or grants, is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders.
  • Proven experience in delivering professional development programs for faculty.
  • Strong understanding of current trends and best practices in teaching and learning, including educational technology.
