The University is seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our Business Operations department. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing general accounting tasks, maintaining financial records, processing transactions, and managing grant funds. This role requires strong analytical skills and an understanding of accounting principles.
Job Duties:
- Prepare, examine, or analyze accounting records, financial statements, or other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting standards.
- Analyze business operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments to project future revenues and expenses or provide advice.
- Prepare budgets and monitor expenditures against budget allocations.
- Manage grant funds according to stipulations and guidelines set forth by funding sources.
- Reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly/yearly closings.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field required; Master’s degree preferred
- 2+ years of experience in general accounting
- Experience with grants management
- Strong knowledge of bookkeeping procedures
- In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Hands-on experience with MS Excel
- Familiarity with financial software systems used in higher education settings is a plus
