Hampton University is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to provide in-person and telehealth medical care to students at the Health Center. Works collaboratively with the health team to provide comprehensive and age-appropriate care for well and ill patients. The scheduled hours are Monday — Friday, 9:00 AM- 6:00 PM and on-call for emergencies.
Job Duties:
- Provide outpatient primary care services for episodic illnesses, health maintenance, wellness screenings.
- Perform examinations of patients to evaluate health and diagnose illnesses.
- Develop appropriate care/treatment plans and adjust treatment if necessary.
- Consistently develops effective care/treatment plan for assigned patients according to established protocols and procedures.
- Order diagnostic tests, such as x-rays and laboratory tests.
- Document medical information of patients and maintain electronic medical records.
- Request consultation or referral with other health care providers, such as physicians and clinics.
- Prescribes medications as needed.
- Provides information to clinical staff regarding patient’s care plan and condition.
- Regularly confers and consults with appropriate supervisory physician as needed.
- Educate, instruct, and counsel patients on presenting health problems, treatment plans, and home care, and encourage and promote preventative health care and positive health behaviors.
- Actively maintain knowledge of current medical research, trends, and evidence based best practices.

Qualifications:
- Must have a current license to practice as a nurse practitioner in the Commonwealth of Virginia
- Must be board certified by either American Association of Nurse Practitioners or American Nurses Association
- Must have current Basic Life Support CPR certification
- Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment
- Must have 2-4 years of clinical work experience
