Hampton University’s Title IX Office seeks a dedicated and knowledgeable Title IX Specialist to support the institution’s efforts in maintaining a safe, inclusive, and respectful campus environment. This position is key in implementing and ensuring compliance with Title IX regulations and policies related to discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct. The Title IX Specialist will serve as a resource for students, faculty, and staff, offering confidential support and guidance while contributing to training, education, and investigative procedures.
Job Duties:
- Title IX Compliance: Assist the Title IX Coordinator in ensuring university-wide compliance with Title IX regulations, as well as federal, state, and local laws related to discrimination and harassment. Monitor and enforce Title IX policies and procedures, ensuring they are current and in alignment with legal requirements.
- Investigation Support: Assist in the intake, investigation, and resolution of complaints related to sexual harassment, sexual assault, gender-based violence, and other forms of discrimination. Coordinate with relevant campus departments (e.g., Student Affairs, Campus Safety, Human Resources) to facilitate investigations and ensure fair and timely resolution. Conduct interviews, collect evidence, and maintain documentation of investigative procedures and outcomes.
- Training and Education: Develop and conduct educational programs and training sessions for students, faculty, and staff on Title IX policies, sexual misconduct prevention, and bystander intervention. Assist in the development of online resources and informational materials to increase awareness of Title IX rights and responsibilities.
- Support and Advocacy: Provide support to individuals involved in Title IX-related incidents, including emotional support, referrals to campus and community resources, and assistance navigating the reporting process.
- Maintain confidentiality and protect the privacy of individuals involved in Title IX matters while balancing the need for timely and effective resolution
- Maintain accurate and organized records of all Title IX reports, investigations, and resolutions. Assist in preparing reports for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring that the university’s compliance efforts are documented and transparent.
- Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with campus stakeholders (e.g., student groups, faculty, administrators, law enforcement) to enhance the campus climate and foster a culture of respect and inclusion. Act as a liaison between the Title IX office and other departments to ensure proper coordination of efforts related to discrimination, harassment, and misconduct.
- Policy Review and Recommendations: Assist in the development, review, and revision of university policies and procedures related to Title IX compliance and sexual misconduct. Stay informed of evolving Title IX guidelines, legal rulings, and best practices to recommend policy changes as needed.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in higher education, law, social work, or a related field preferred.
- Experience: – Minimum of 2-3 years of experience working in higher education or a related field, preferably in roles involving Title IX compliance, student affairs, or student services.
- Experience with investigation processes and procedures related to sexual misconduct, harassment, or discrimination is highly desirable.
- Skills and Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of Title IX regulations, federal and state laws related to discrimination and harassment, and best practices for sexual misconduct prevention.
- Strong understanding of the dynamics of sexual violence, gender discrimination, and trauma informed care.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and professionalism. Experience developing and delivering training programs or educational materials. Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
