The Department of Music at Hampton University, which houses the BA in Music (Performance and Music Education Pre-Certification), BS in Music Recording Technology, and BS in Audio Production is seeking to fill a faculty position at the Assistant Professor or Associate level beginning Fall 2026.
Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate must be committed to teaching undergraduate courses in Applied Voice, Music Business, and other discipline-related topics. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the scholarly advancement of the department, the School of Liberal Arts and Education, and the University through a productive research agenda that includes grantsmanship as well as service activities. Successful candidates are expected to advise majors and hold office hours. Other duties as assigned by the chairperson.
Qualifications
Qualified candidates must have an earned doctorate e.g., DMA, DA, DM, or PhD in Vocal Performance, Choral Conducting, or a closely related field from an accredited university. At least one year experience in and evidence of successful full-time teaching in a university setting is required. The ability to coach singers in standard languages including French, German, Italian, and English. Sufficient keyboard skills for support during vocal instruction. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience in research and grantsmanship. Although there is an expectation of hiring at the Assistant Professor rank, we will consider filling the position at a higher rank depending upon the qualifications of the applicant. Rank and compensation are commensurate with credentials and experience.
