The Hampton University Department of Management invites nominations for a faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 2026.
Founded in 1868, Hampton University is a leading historically black university (HBCU) located on the Virginia Peninsula in the City of Hampton. It is a privately endowed, co-educational, nonsectarian institution. The Department of Management provides studies in broad-based management education, allowing flexibility in varied management level careers. Students understanding of management as both an art and science, together with managerial skills essential for positions of leadership is developed. The management major promotes a generalist interdisciplinary approach that prepares students to work in any business organization.
Duties and Responsibilities
The faculty member will be responsible for the following duties:
- Teach undergraduate Management and Management Information Systems courses
- Provide instruction based on course description, and outlines, and course schedules
- Provide and maintain a learning environment that emphasizes, encourages sound discussions and critical thinking
- Discuss current topics (e.g. Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics, System Analysis & Design)
- Maintain academic standards and professional ethics
- Evaluate students’ academic progress and grade students’ work
- Meet regularly with students and facilitate the learning process as needed
- Maintain accurate academic records
- Align courses with industry certifications
- Provide academic advisement
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Chairperson or Dean.
Qualifications
A doctoral degree in Management Information Systems or related field with at least 18 graduate credit hours. ABD candidates who will not hold their doctorate degree by August 2026 may not be considered at this time. Candidates with Masters degrees and 18 credit hours in the respective fields will be considered with prior teaching and/or professional experience. Candidates must be available to work in person at our main campus location in Hampton VA.
