IT Business Analyst/Programmer- DoIT

The Division of Information Technology (DoIT) at Hampton University seeks a dynamic and experienced IT Business Analyst/Programmer to join our team. The successful candidate will possess a mix of business analysis and data analysis skills commensurate for understanding and documenting business applications and user requirements as well as designing, testing, troubleshooting and delivering codified data reports/extracts to meet those needs. They will support system implementations and act as a liaison between IT, system vendors, and the University’s business units leveraging SDLC and project management disciplines. This is a full-time position located on-premises at Hampton University.

Job Duties:

  • Reports to the Director of Enterprise Applications Services.
  • Responsible for the solutioning, design, development, maintenance and ongoing support of the university ERP system (Ellucian Banner) and supporting applications, including but not limited to finance, human resources, student, instruction, research, financial aid, admissions, and student success.
  • Perform source system business analysis, document data quality issues, ETL (Extract, Transform, and Load) mappings, and data integration specifications.
  • Monitor applications and processes through automation and alerts to notify responsible parties should systems or data issues arise.
  • Design processes to transfer data efficiently between systems as necessary.
  • Leverage automation software wherever possible to minimize manual intervention.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for all data contained within the ERP database.
  • Implement data quality and data integrity best practices.
  • Create, implement and enforce standard operating procedures, recommend policies and processes for existing and new services within the defined function/scope for enterprise applications.
  • Develop procedures to ensure the availability and reliability of the University’s enterprise business intelligence environment including installation and upgrades.
  • Perform unit testing, system integration testing and assist with user acceptance testing for all system implementations.
  • Monitor database and application servers; resolve system problems or escalate appropriately for timely technical support.
  • Partner with university functional areas to establish business stewardship of data, data usage in business processes, and gather reporting requirements as needed.
  • Assist with the preparation or modification of technical standards, manuals, user documentation, operational procedures, and system performance objectives.
  • Train and support user groups in the use of new or existing applications; encourage technological competence and confidence throughout the institution.
  • Other activities as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or related field.
  • Three to five years of business analysis or related experience.

Required Technical Skills:

  1. Proficiency in Banner ERP systems management.
  2. Expertise in managing diverse IT applications on-premise and in-cloud/hosted.
  3. Advanced to Expert SQL/PL-SQL skills, Oracle preferred.
  4. Strong data analysis skills
  5. Solid documentation skills, including technical and business processes, requirements gathering, and code documentation.
  6. Familiarity with data governance best practices.
  7. Knowledge of Linux and Windows server architecture principles.
  8. Experience with process automation software.
  9. Experience working in a higher education technology environment.
  10. Specific academic systems experience is a plus: Banner, DegreeWorks, Canvas, StarRez, Evisions, Blackbaud, NEOED, Transact, Slate, etc.
