Student Right-to-Know and Campus Security Act, passed by Congress in 1990, requires institutions eligible for Title IV funding, under the Higher Education Act of 1965, to provide information freely to the public especially for current and prospective students regarding (1) “completion or graduation rates of certificate- or degree-seeking, full-time students entering that institution”, (2) “graduation/completion rates of all students as well as students receiving athletically-related student aid by race/ethnicity and gender and by sport, and the average completion or graduation rate for the four most recent years”, and (3) institution’s crime statistics. Greeting cards, insignia gifts, clothing and various other sundries are available for purchase in the store located in the Hampton Harbor Shopping Center. Hampton University offers a quality academic program to all students. The program provides a liberal arts foundation for its professional and scientific disciplines. Some of the major areas of study are: aviation sciences; architecture; biological/environmental and marine sciences; chemistry; electrical engineering, chemical engineering, and music engineering technology; education; English; business; computer sciences; mass media; nursing; communicative sciences and disorders; physical therapy; physics; paralegal studies; fire administration; emergency medical systems management; physical education; pharmacy; political and social sciences; sports management; and systems organization management. The University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges and the Department of Education of the Commonwealth of Virginia. The athletics program is fully certified by the National Collegiate Athletic Association at the Division I level. U.S. News and World Report ranks the University in the top five as a historically black college and university.
