Jessica R. Cody is a third year, Freddye T. Davy Honors College Scholar at Hampton University. She is set to graduate in 2024 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science, minor in Economics and a concentration in Pre-law Studies.
Ms. Cody is an active student body member and community servant and plans to acquire a Juris Doctorate and begin practicing civil law. Her life’s mission is to infuse passion and drive into the intersection of policy, young people, and the modern age.
Upon graduation in 2020 from Northwood Temple Academy with a 4.3 GPA, Ms. Cody worked as a political intern for the North Carolina Democratic House Caucus. For her summer internship, she worked on several campaigns allowing for direct voter contact and the maximization of communication. Following her summer internship, Ms. Cody immediately came to Hampton and was elected as Secretary for the Class of 2024. In this role, she worked with the Class President and Vice President to assemble a class schedule, plan events, and answer questions and concerns, especially in a virtual environment. Since 2020, Ms. Cody has been serving as the Women’s Caucus Advisor to the 49th Student Government Association (SGA) Senate where she works with fellow class senators to develop bills that advocate for the safety and wellness of Hampton University students.
Ms. Cody has been active at Hampton University with the Sophomore Class Office (2021 – 2022), Freddye T. Davy Honors College Scholar (2021 – Present), Phi Eta Sigma Honors Society (2021 – Present), Hampton University Freshman Class Secretary (2020 – 2021), Wayfair Early Leaders Program (2022), and the Duke Prelaw Fellowship (2022). She has been on the Dean’s List for four consecutive semesters. Ms. Cody is the 77th Student Representative on the Hampton University Board of Trustees. Since 2021, she has been the Freddye T. Davy Honors College Cohort Representative to the Executive Board.
