Dear Hampton University Community: As we approach the Thanksgiving season, so much is changing across the learning environment, and I want to sincerely thank all who helped Hampton University meet this challenge. Many colleges and universities, large and small, public and private, are beset by money woes, forced closings, staff layoffs, and growing financial needs due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Although we are not out of the woods yet, Hampton has been fortunate. So many of you have played an important role in Hampton’s goal to weather the COVID- 19 pandemic, and I can never thank you enough.

Dear Hampton University Community: I pray that you and your family are remaining healthy and safe as our nation continues to confront the challenges we face due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Throughout this semester, I have been in contact with faculty, staff, and students who have reported that this semester is going well. Both faculty and students are actively engaged in the teaching/learning process and have adjusted to virtual instruction.

Hampton University has signed and returned to the U.S. Department of Education the Certification and Agreement and assurance that it intends to use no less than 50% of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.

Dear Hampton University Community: Last Friday, Hampton University hosted the United States Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos, and Assistant Secretary Scott Stump on our campus for a Workforce Development Roundtable. During the session, the Secretary announced $17.7 million in funding from the Department of Education to support Hampton’s Virginia Workforce Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (VWIEC) grant proposal.

Dear Hampton University Alumni: Congratulations on setting a new alumni giving record! For academic year 2019-2020, Hampton University alumni gave over $3 million in annual contributions to our “Home by the Sea.” This was the most that our wonderful alumni have ever contributed in a single year! Yet, despite all that is happening in the world today, I can still see the light at the end of the tunnel. The light shining before me is the bright beam of education that promises better opportunities to all who follow its path. Providing our students with a quality education is Hampton University’s primary raison d’être, or reason for being. Therefore, we will continue to find new and innovative ways to reach and teach our students, even in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, so they may move forward on their paths to success.
